A four-hectare quarry in Morristown, N.S., will expand to 53 hectares over the next 40 years after it received environmental assessment approval from the provincial government. The Sturk Quarry, which is operated by Prospect Industrial Equipment Sales and Rentals Limited, opened in 2013 under a temporary operating permit. The expansion work is expected to start this fall. The quarry supplies aggregate for road construction projects, according to a release from the provincial government. It is expected to produce an average of 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of aggregate annually. Aggregate is on the list of Nova Scotia’s strategic materials.
