2025 Blue Nose Marathon to welcome 10,000 runners next weekend

Crystal Garrett speaks with Sherri Robins about the final preparations for the 2025 Blue Nose Marathon.

The 22nd annual Emera Blue Nose Marathon is taking place in Halifax, May 17 and 18.

“People can expect to see 10,000 participants taking over the streets as we kick off our race weekend,” said Sherri Robbins, with our partners the Blue Nose Marathon.

Robbins joined the Blue Nose team 10 years ago.

“Those were our origins when the founders first started it,” Robbins said. “It was really important that our event be inclusive and welcoming to all.”

The Blue Nose Marathon has a variety of races to accommodate all types of runners, ranging from the Purple Cow 5km to the Blue Nose full marathon. As well, there’s the Doctors Nova Scotia youth 2km and 4km runs.

“We are really trying to instill that healthy, active living from the early onset,” Robbins said.

The marathon also offers opportunities for volunteers to be apart of the race weekend.

“It takes about 1,000 volunteers to stage this event successfully, so we really rely on our volunteers,” Robbins said.

Volunteers will be preparing for the race weekend starting on Thursday, when they will be hitting the race routes to clear up garbage.

“This is part of our sustainability work,” Robbins said. “As we make the routes beautiful and clean for the 10,000 participants that are going to be taking over the streets.”

Kit pick-up starts on May 16 at the Zatzman Sportsplex.
