Two people sentenced in connection with 2021 homicide in Rivière-Verte, N.B.

Two people have been sentenced in connection with a homicide in Rivière-Verte, N.B., in 2021.

The Saint-Léonard RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive man on Rue Industrielle on the morning on Aug. 15, 2021, and found the body of a 60-year-old man who was later identified as Rino St-Pierre.

The investigation determined St-Pierre’s death was the result of a homicide.

Benjamin Côté was arrested in Rivière-du-Loup, Que., on Aug. 27, 2023. He was charged with first-degree murder on Aug. 28, 2023.

Angie LeClerc from St-Antonin, Que., was arrested on Aug. 29, 2023 and was also charged with first-degree murder on Aug. 29, 2023.

Côté pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 14.5 years.

LeClerc pled guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced on Aug. 22 to 10 years in prison.
