Two men charged after theft of copper in Geary: N.B. RCMP

Two men have been charged in connection with the theft of copper in Geary, N.B.

The West District RCMP received multiple reports of copper wire theft on April 8.

Officers responded to the Broad Road area around 4:40 a.m., where police say two people were seen driving into the area and attempting to steal copper wire.

“As police approached, the individuals fled the scene in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen. With the assistance of the RCMP’s Police Dog Services, one individual was located and taken into custody. The second individual was identified but fled from police on an all-terrain vehicle,” reads a news release from New Brunswick RCMP.

Jeremy Delaney, 36, appeared in Fredericton provincial court on April 10 and was charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was released from custody on several conditions and is scheduled to return to court.

The second person was arrested at an Intervale Road residence in Oromocto, N.B., on Monday.

Brian Dobson, 36, appeared in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday and was charged with:

• theft over $5,000
• possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
• flight from police
• disguised with intent to commit an offence
• assault on a police officer with a weapon causing bodily harm

He was released from custody on several conditions and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing.
