Two Grand Falls, N.B., men have been arrested following a drug seizure in the community.

Saint-Léonard RCMP officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Saint-André Road on Thursday.

“The driver fled at a high rate of speed through a construction zone. He quickly stopped on Madawaska Road, due to heavy traffic,” reads a news release from the New Brunswick RCMP.

A 35-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were arrested at the scene.

Police say officers searched the vehicle, and the men, and seized:

• a quantity of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine
• prescription opioids
• a machete
• a katana (Japanese sword)
• drug trafficking paraphernalia
• money

The men were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police say the vehicle was impounded for being illegally on the road and without a safety inspection.

The investigation is ongoing.
