The Fredericton and federal governments are spending $15 million to retrofit the city’s indoor pool. Ottawa said it will spend up to $6 million on the Fredericton Indoor Pool through its Build Communities Strong Fund. The city will pitch in $9 million, according to a news release. The money will help replace ageing mechanical, circulation and filtration systems along with worn pool and deck finishes. It will also improve the building’s heating and ventilation system, roof insulation and pool tiles. The work is expected to extend the facility’s lifespan and improve its energy efficiency. “The Fredericton Indoor Pool delivers essential programming across our city for everyone including serving seniors, youth, and persons with disabilities,” said Mayor Steve Hicks in the release. “By investing in the future of this facility with support from the Government of Canada, we are ensuring that vital aquatic programs remain available to Fredericton residents for generations to come.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
