One person displaced following morning house fire in Saint John

One person has been displaced by a house fire in Saint John’s north end.

One person has been displaced following a house fire in the north end of Saint John, N.B., Tuesday morning.

Crews with the Saint John Fire Department were called to a home in the 100 block of Somerset Street around 6 a.m. Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke emanating from the home.

Six of the seven on duty crews, or 20 firefighters, were required to knock down the fire, which was done through an aggressive interior attack.

The interior of the building sustained significant damage, and Platoon Chief Josh Hennessy says one person has been displaced as a result of the fire.

Fire investigators arrived on scene around 8:15 a.m. A cause of the fire is still being determined.

As firefighters battled the blaze, a section of Somerset Street was closed between Magazine Street and Wellesley Avenue. It reopened around 9:30 a.m.

No fire crews or civilians where injured as a result of the fire.
