A New Brunswick QMJHL team is in the running to host the 2028 Memorial Cup. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) says the Moncton Wildcats and the Remparts, which are based out of Québec City, have been selected in the championship bid. The two clubs were chosen by a site selection committee made of five people with “extensive experience” across the sports landscape. The committee reviewed submissions before identifying the two finalists that would advance in the process. They will now submit formal written bids, deliver bid presentations and host site visits. The Wildcats say they are “thrilled” to be named a finalist. “We look forward to presenting our vision of this major event to the selection committee. We know we have the fans, sponsors, hockey organization, and community support both in the Greater Moncton area and the province to host another successful national championship,” said president R.J. Irving. “We also have state-of-the-art facilities and an established standard of winning on the ice. With additional events planned in the community to complement the on-ice competition, Moncton will be the place everyone will want to be in May 2028.” The host city is expected to be announced by the end of October. Moncton previously hosted the Memorial Cup in 2006, when they played in the championship game against the Québec Remparts. The team later returned to the Memorial Cup as QMJHL champions in 2010 and 2025. The last Memorial Cup was held in May in Kelowna, B.C. The next Memorial Cup will be hosted by the Guelph Storm in Guelph, Ont., in May 2027. For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
