Inmate at New Brunswick correctional centre dies after being found unresponsive

The New Brunswick Justice Department is reporting the death of an inmate in custody.

Jean Martin Couture, 48, an inmate at the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre, was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday.

“Staff administered first aid and CPR, and he was transported to the Campbellton Regional Hospital. He died Thursday,” a news release from the province said.

The province did not say how Couture died. A coroner’s inquest into his death will be held.

Details of the inquest, including the presiding coroner, schedule and location, will be determined after the investigation is concluded, the release continued.

Couture was serving a sentence in custody after being charged with the second-degree murder of Jacques Lévesque in July.
