An early morning fluid spill on Fredericton’s north side caused a slower commute into the city for some residents on Friday. Justin McGuigan with the Fredericton Emergency Measures Organization told CTV Atlantic in an email that Fredericton Fire received a call about a fluid spill on Riverside Drive not far from the Princess Margaret Bridge. Upon arrival, crews identified the substance on the roadway as hydraulic fluid and applied spill absorbent to control and collect the product. Spill absorbent could be seen along at least 50 metres of the roadway. Fire crews left the scene at 9:45 a.m. Fredericton police, as well as officials from the Department of Environment and Local Government and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, attended the scene. There is no word on what caused the hydraulic fluid spill. CTV Atlantic has reached out to the province for more information and is awaiting a response.
