Warrant issued after 4 of 5 people accused of conspiracy to commit murder appear in N.B. court

A warrant has been issued for a person who failed to appear in court for a New Brunswick murder case.

Five people charged with conspiracy to commit murder were supposed to make their first court appearance at the Moncton Law Courts Monday morning, but only four did, and a warrant has been issued for one person’s arrest.

Janson Bryan Baker, Jesse Todd Logue, Nicholas Daniel Bain, Christopher Allen Lennon and Monique Alicia Boyer were charged on Nov. 24 with conspiracy to commit the murder of Sylvio Saulnier.

The bodies of Saulnier’s parents, 78-year-old Bernard and 74-year-old Rose-Marie Saulnier, were found in their Dieppe home on Sept. 7, 2019.

Police ruled their deaths as homicides.

Janson Bryan Baker of Moncton was charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Sept. 7, 2023 and is scheduled to go to trial in January.

Baker and Lennon made in-person court appearances Monday morning while Logue and Boyer appeared via video teleconference.

However, Bain did not appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The four accused will remain in custody until they return to court Jan. 5.

The Crown objected to their release during Monday’s brief court appearance.

Baker, Logue and Boyer are seeking legal aid, while Lennon was represented in court.

Around 10 supporters of the Saulnier family were present in court Monday morning, but politely declined interview requests afterwards.

Sylvio Saulnier died in 2023, but foul play was not suspected in his death.

In an interview with CTV News last week, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Matthew Leblanc-Smith said the investigation has been complex and far-reaching.

“This is a very tragic situation,” said Leblanc-Smith. “This impacted many people in the community, but we are always working with our partners and the community and the victims’ families to get to a good resolution.”
