Alberta man charged after shots fired at moving vehicle in Dieppe: N.B. RCMP

A 35-year-old Alberta man has been arrested and charged after shots were fired at a moving vehicle in Dieppe, N.B., according to RCMP.

Police say they responded to a report of gunshots on Gauvin Street and Thomas Street around 12:13 a.m. on March 17. According to the report, a motorist said they were being chased by another vehicle and heard what sounded like gunshots and something striking their vehicle.

When police arrived, officers found what appeared to be bullet holes on the driver’s side door of the vehicle.

In a news release Friday, police say they located a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim, a white Mercedes SUV, and arrested the driver. They say the man, 35-year-old Jarrett Mackenzie of Alberta, was known to police. Officers then seized quantities of what they believe to be a controlled substance from the vehicle.

Later the same day, Mackenzie appeared in court and was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and placed in the Southeast Regional Correctional Centre. Shortly after, police say he attempted to escape the jail and was quickly apprehended.

Mackenzie appeared in court again on Wednesday and was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to wound and reckless discharging of a firearm. His previous charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking was dismissed. He was then remanded back into custody pending his next court appearance on Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.
