Two people arrested on drugs, weapon offences: Halifax police

Halifax Regional Police says they charged two people with drug and weapon offences during a traffic checkpoint on the Bedford Highway Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers said they stopped a vehicle and spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. At the time of arrest, police say they located and seized two firearms, a crossbow and a quantity of money and drugs. The passenger was also arrested.

Tyreece Whynder-Ewing, 31, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Monday to face charges of:

• transport firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
• possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (two counts)
• carrying a concealed weapon
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possession of a firearm-no license/certificate
• possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon/ammo-no license
• possession of a firearm in a vehicle
• possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
• possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
• tampering with serial number on firearm
• possession of a firearm contrary to order/fail to surrender (two counts)
• possession for the purpose of trafficking
• possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000
• laundering proceeds of Canadian crime for a criminal organization
• operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs or a combination of both

Shaquille Johnson, 32, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court Monday to face charges of:

• transport firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
• possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (two counts)
• carrying a concealed weapon
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possession of a firearm-no license/certificate
• possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon/ammo-no license
• possession of a firearm in a vehicle
• possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
• possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
• tampering with serial number on firearm
• possession for the purpose of trafficking
• possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000
• laundering proceeds of Canadian crime for a criminal organization
