Minto man sentenced to 18 months after child pornography investigation

The New Brunswick RCMP said a 34-year-old man from Minto has been sentenced in connection with an investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The investigation, which was led by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), began in September 2023 after the RCMP received information from its Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC).

Police said officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Bridge Street on May 22, 2024.

“As part of the investigation a man was arrested at the scene, and police seized several electronic devices. The man was later released on strict condition pending a future court appearance,” read a news release from the RCMP.

Tommie McGinley was charged in Fredericton provincial court with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material on Jan. 9, 2025.

McGinley then appeared in Fredericton provincial court on Sept. 29, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police said McGinley was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Fredericton provincial court on Thursday. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry and to provide a DNA sample.

Following his release from prison, the RCMP said McGinley will have to abide by conditions set out by the court for a period of three years.
