Halifax police warn of fraudsters posing as Canada Revenue Agency

Halifax police are warning residents about a telephone scam involving callers who claim to be with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Police spokeswoman Stacey Opalka says the force's financial crime section has received four complaints about the scam.

She says the caller tells people they owe money to the agency, and then instructs them to use a pre-paid credit card.

The request for payment is often accompanied by a threat of jail time or deportation.

Opalka says if you receive such a call, hang up and call police.
