Gas prices up across the Maritimes, N.S. to adjust prices after midnight

Nova Scotians express frustration as the price of gas goes up 10 cents a litre in the province.

The price of gas increased overnight for all three Maritime provinces.

Nova Scotia

Regular self-serve gasoline in the Halifax area increased by 10.5 cents to a new minimum price of 177.7 cents per litre.

The price of diesel did not change. It remains at a minimum price of 206.6 cents per litre.

The minimum price of regular self-serve gasoline in Cape Breton is 179.7 cents per litre. The minimum price of diesel is still 208.5 cents per litre.

The Nova Scotia Energy Board said it will use the interrupter mechanism to adjust the price of all grades of gasoline and diesel oil at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.

Prince Edward Island

The price of regular self-serve gasoline increased by four cents on P.E.I. The minimum price is now 179.3 cents per litre.

Diesel prices increased by 2.3 cents following a previous decrease on Tuesday.

The new minimum price is 217.2 cents per litre.

New Brunswick

The price of regular self-serve gasoline increased by 6.3 cents in New Brunswick. The new maximum price is 178.7 cents per litre.

The price of diesel decreased overnight in New Brunswick following an increase on Thursday.

Prices went down by 1.6 cents to a new maximum price of 216.9 cents per litre.

Impact of prices

Dan Park runs Clutch, the largest online seller of used cars in Canada, and he says the high gas prices are influencing people to buy and sell vehicles.

“Right now, pickup trucks are being traded almost three times as much volume as last year,” Park said. “It really started at the end of February with the Iran-Hormuz conflict and so you are seeing gas prices tick up close to the $2 mark.

“You’re seeing customers really thinking about their car ownership costs and doing something about it.”
