Cavendish Beach Music Festival wraps up for another year

CTV Atlantic: Cavendish music festival wraps up Country music lovers were in P.E.I. on Sunday for the final day of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. CTV's Cami Kepke has more.

As the 2016 Cavendish Beach Music Festival wrapped up on Sunday, staff on site were working to keep the venue as clean as possible.

“We clean the festival grounds every night,” says Jeff Squires, president of Whitecap Entertainment. “We make sure we do our best on the roads leading up to and from the site and the walkways up, and (Monday) morning will be no different.

Some of the trash will actually help local kids. Money from the leftover bottles and cans will go towards local sports programs.

Country artist Bobby Wills says over the past eight years, word about the festival has been travelling through artist's circles.

“This is one of the ones you hear about, the artists all talk about how great it is, how much fun it is to play, we were super excited to get out there,” says Wills.

A lot has changed over eight years, with artists like the Dixie Chicks, Reba, and the Rascall Flatts gracing the stage.

“The venue is a venue artists want to play,” says Squires. “When they talk about laying out their tours, we're a part of that conversation about how it all fits together.”

Newfoundland artist Jason Benoit says Canada’s country music scene has never been stronger.

“The Canadian country music business is so strong right now,” he says. “It's so exciting to get to be a part of that. It's nice because we know the foundation is being laid for the next generation and the music is going to be strong for a long time.”

More than 25,000 were in attendance for Blake Shelton Saturday night, and just as many there Sunday night for Kenny Chesney and Dean Brody.
