In Trump's words: Sexist, racist and untrue statements from the next U.S. president

Donald Trump, a man who uttered a litany of racist, misogynist and untrue statements prior to and during his successful presidential campaign, is now poised to continue his ways from the Oval Office as the 45th President of the United States.

The anti-establishment candidate who repeatedly professed himself to be beyond political correctness will now speak from the top political office in the country, and perhaps the world. And if history is any indication, the next four years are likely to be filled with more of the offensive remarks he's made throughout his adult life.

Trump has said throughout his election campaign that the "dishonest media" is out to take him down. So here are just a few of the things he has said, from his own mouth or his own Twitter account.

On women

Trump has used his Twitter account to attack many women based on their looks, including Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, and actresses Rosie O'Donnell and Bette Midler.

He even commented on the relationship between "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, saying that Stewart "cheated on him like a dog and will do it again."

During the election debates, Trump called opponent Hillary Clinton a "nasty woman" and condemned her for using former Miss Universe Alicia Machado in her campaign. Trump also suggested there was a sex tape of Machado, and labelled her "disgusting."

On women, part II

A recording surfaced last month of Trump caught in a vulgar conversation about women, in which he discusses unsuccessfully seeking an affair with an "Access Hollywood" employee. Trump said in the 2005 tape that when he sees beautiful women, "I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet.

"Grab them by the p----. You can do anything," he said.

Trump apologized on social media for the comments, saying: "I've said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them."

However, he later dismissed the whole thing as "locker room banter."

On his daughter, Ivanka

In 2006, Trump appeared on "The View" with his daughter, Ivanka, and said: "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."

On Barack Obama

For years, Trump encouraged the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama was not born in the United States. In 2012, for instance, he claimed to have information from an 'extremely credible source' that Obama's birth certificate is a fraud.

He continued to cast doubt on the notion through much of his election campaign, until finally changing course in September.

"President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period," Trump said.

On minorities

Last April, in the midst of protests in Baltimore over the death of a black teen during an encounter with police, Trump openly questioned why the country's "African American President" couldn't control the "thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore."

Trump has repeatedly called for a total ban on allowing Muslims into the country, "until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on."

He has also promised to build a wall along the border with Mexico, paid for by Mexico, in order to keep out "rapists," "criminals" and "bad hombres."

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best," he said last year. "They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists – and some are good people."
