School bus with students onboard involved in crash, police investigating

A school bus crash in Winnipeg sent one person to hospital and police are now looking for the public’s help in their investigation.

A school bus carrying students was involved in a crash in south Winnipeg and police are asking for the public’s help as part of their investigation.

On Wednesday at 3:26 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) received a report of a vehicle collision in the 1-99 block of Keslar Road in Richmond West, according to a news release.

At the scene, a damaged school bus and grey van could be seen. Police said the school bus—which contained an unspecified number of students—did not sustain significant damage and that no students nor the adult bus driver required medical attention.

The sole occupant of the van, a 17-year-old, was transported to the hospital in unstable condition, according to police. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Police are asking anyone with information or video regarding the van’s driving to contact investigators at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

The van had been driven in the area of Lee Boulevard before the collision, south of Bison Drive between Pembina Highway and Waverley Boulevard, according to police.

Police said additional information will be provided at a later date and that the investigation is ongoing.
