The 2-year-old boy at the centre of an Amber Alert following an alleged abduction from a Winnipeg, Man. home has been found. Police said Friday afternoon the boy reported missing earlier that day had been safely located. Officers previously said they were called at around 10 a.m. Friday to a home in south Winnipeg where they learned the boy was allegedly taken by a 30-year-old woman following a dispute with his biological mother. In the alert issued Friday afternoon, police said they were searching for two women in relation to the abduction. At 1:30 p.m., officers said the child and a suspect were found near McPhillips Street and Logan Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody. “The Amber Alert was very instrumental in locating this child,” said Winnipeg Police Service Const. Stephen Spencer during a news conference. “We had several calls from citizens and a lot of tips that really helped narrow down the area.” A second suspect was also arrested at another location, Const. Spencer said. The mother of the child and the 30-year-old woman are not family, he added, but are known to each other. Police said “some violence” took place at the time of the alleged abduction. “That really heightened how we dealt with this,” Const. Spencer said. Winnipeg police have not named the suspects as charges have not been officially laid against them. The major crimes unit is now investigating. The child was taken to hospital for assessment and was found to be in good health, police say. None of the allegations have been tested in court.
