Winnipeg police investigating fatal fire in Lord Roberts neighbourhood

One person is dead and three people were injured following a house fire Monday in the city’s Lord Roberts neighbourhood.

Winnipeg police are investigating after a man died in a house fire in the city’s Lord Roberts neighbourhood on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a fire in the 700 block of Nassau Street shortly after 1 p.m.

When they arrived, heavy smoke and flames were visible in the home. A ladder truck was used to spray water above the fire, and crews shifted between offensive and defensive strategies due to the conditions of the blaze. It was declared under control at 4:14 p.m.

The home suffered significant damage from smoke, water and fire.

Three people – a man and woman in their 60s and a woman in her 30s – were able to evacuate the house, police said. They were taken to hospital, treated and released.

Police said a man in his 40s was found dead inside the home.

The police service’s major crimes unit is investigating.
