Winnipeg house fire sends three to hospital, including firefighter

A house fire in Winnipeg’s West Broadway area on Thursday has sent three people to the hospital, including one in critical condition.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was first called to the fire in the 200 block of Young Street at 5:35 p.m.

Once at the scene, firefighters discovered heavy black smoke coming from the home. Crews rescued one person, while everyone else got out on their own.

Paramedics took one person to the hospital in critical condition and another in stable condition. A firefighter, who suffered an injury at the scene, was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Following an offensive attack, the WFPS had the fire under control just after 6:22 p.m.

The City of Winnipeg’s emergency social services team came to the scene to offer help to displaced residents.

The fire is under investigation and there are no damage estimates at this time.
