A Winnipeg city councillor is wanting to make it easier for people to find out if an athletic field is booked. Coun. Janice Lukes filed a motion in the Assiniboia Community Committee to find out if there is a way to see current field bookings online. With the current system, people can only find out about current bookings by calling 311. “When a citizen calls 311 to determine if an athletic field has been booked for a particular time, 311 does not have access to the current bookings and must call a Parks Booking Agent,” the motion reads. The motion notes most people call about bookings in the evening or weekend when an agent isn’t available. “I’d like to think, with technology, with AI, with how we’re advancing, and we’ve got a great IT department, I’d like to think that they could do a turnaround on this. So for next season, we’d be able to look at our bookings online,” Lukes said in an interview with CTV News. Lukes is asking the Community Services Committee to direct the Public Service to find a method to view current field bookings online. The motion will be discussed on Sept. 4.
