Wind chill to reach -40 in parts of Manitoba

It’s set to be a frosty start to the week for several Manitoba communities as extreme cold settles across the province.

As of Monday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a yellow warning – cold for a number of communities, including Winnipeg, Gimli, Portage la Prairie and Steinbach.

The weather agency warns wind chill values of -40 are expected by the Manitoba lakes, Interlake region, Red River Valley and east of the Manitoba lakes.

The extreme cold is expected to last late into Monday morning.

ECCC warns that extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Manitobans are urged to watch out for cold-related symptoms and cover up when they go outside.
