Wild winds blow porta-potty into road during morning rush

Wild winds stunk up the morning drive for some motorists in Selkirk, Man.

Sandra Kurbis was on her way to get groceries Friday morning during a bout of intense northwesterly winds that caused blowing snow, near-zero road visibility and highway closures.

While driving on Eaton Avenue, Kurbis saw something drift across the roadway, disrupting the flow of traffic.

“All of a sudden, I see the outhouse from a construction site sliding across the road,” she told CTV News.

In other words – the powerful winds blew the loo right into the busy thoroughfare.

It blocked traffic for a few minutes, Kurbis said, before the winds carried the lavatory across the street near the City of Selkirk office.

“The door flew open. Thank goodness nobody was inside it. And I just thought, ‘Oh, this is too funny. I gotta take a picture.’”

A City of Selkirk spokesperson told CTV News the unit came from a construction site across the street, where work is underway to add a new pharmacy to a multi-million-dollar mixed-use building in the city’s downtown.

“This has since been addressed and secured on the private project site,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Kurbis posted the photo to Facebook, where folks found the wayward WC to be quite the gas.

“We all had a really good laugh,” she said.
