Waterslide at Winnipeg community centre wading pool removed

A waterslide at a Winnipeg community centre has been removed.

In a statement, the City of Winnipeg said it recently completed a project at the Dakota Community Centre’s waterplay park that involved repairs to the wading pool and removal of the waterslide due to accessibility issues.

The city said it knows this removal will be disappointing to some people but noted that new spray features have been added that will provide “new water play opportunities and foster an atmosphere of inclusion.”

The city said the new features of the waterplay park include a sneaky soaker, an aqua-drop, and a parasol.

The soaker fills five buckets that dump water randomly. The aqua-drop spills large amounts of water at a time. The parasol creates a water curtain for kids to enjoy.

“With zero water depth and a flat surface, the spray features are universally accessible. They provide interactive and creative play opportunities, primarily for children ages 0-10,” the city said.

The city also confirmed the waterplay park will continue to be staffed, adding that all wading pools are supervised during regular operating hours.

According to the city’s website, wading pools will open for the season on a staggered basis beginning on July 1.
