Two youths, including 12-year-old, charged after woman stabbed: Winnipeg police

A 12 and 14-year-old girl are facing charges after a woman was allegedly stabbed and robbed in a Winnipeg parking lot.

Two girls, including a 12-year-old, have been charged after they allegedly stabbed a woman and stole her purse last month.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a business in the 2300 block of McGillivray Boulevard on Nov. 26.

Police said a woman in her 60s was returning to her vehicle after shopping when she was confronted by two youths who demanded her purse. When the victim refused, she was stabbed.

Police allege the two suspects grabbed the purse and ran away. Bystanders in the parking lot ran to help the victim, who was taken to hospital in unstable condition. She was later upgraded to stable.

On Dec. 4, police received a report from a teenage girl known to the suspects, claiming she was threatened at knifepoint and driven in a stolen vehicle to Brandon, where she was let out.

The pair continued driving to Sioux Valley Dakota Nation and were taken into custody on Friday with help from the Virden RCMP.

Police have charged a 14-year-old girl with multiple offences, including robbery, possession of a weapon, forcible confinement and possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime. She has also been charged with four counts of failing to comply with her sentence and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

A 12-year-old girl is facing charges of robbery and possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime.

The 14-year-old was detained in custody, while the 12-year-old was released on an undertaking. None of the charges have been proven in court.
