‘Travel will likely be hazardous’: Blowing snow advisory in effect for southern Manitoba

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a yellow blowing snow advisory early Sunday morning, asking affected area residents to “consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”

The weather agency issued the advisory to southern Manitoba, in effect for communities such as Killarney, Gimli, Winnipeg, Steinbach and Emerson.

“Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected in some locations,” the agency said. “Strong northwesterly winds combined with falling snow will lead to reduced visibilities in blowing snow (Sunday) afternoon across the Red River Valley.”

Travel will likely be hazardous due to near-zero visibility and five to 10 centimetres of new snow is expected across southern portion of the valley, the advisory read.

Visibility is expected to improve Sunday evening, according to the agency.
