Town of Lorette under boil water advisory following pump failure

A boil water advisory has been issued for the town of Lorette, Man., after a distribution pump failure on Thursday.

The RM of Tache said the pump failure resulted in a loss of water pressure for the town, which can “compromise the safety of the water supply.”

“Until further notice, all water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used,” the RM said in the advisory.

People should boil the water if they are going to drink it or make ice, use it to prepare beverages, prep food, or brush teeth.

The water doesn’t need to be boiled for things like washing dishes or doing laundry.

“Adults and older children that are able to avoid swallowing the water can wash, bathe, or shower. Young children should be sponge bathed.”

The RM said the advisory will be in effect until the pump failure has been fixed and residents will be notified when it has been lifted.
