Fire crews were busy responding to three separate fires across the city overnight and into Sunday morning. The first call came at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, when firefighters were dispatched to a high-rise building in the 100 block of Donald Street. Crews quickly brought the blaze under control by 11:31 p.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation. Riverton Avenue garage fire Just over two hours later, at 1:44 a.m. Sunday, crews responded to a garage fire in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue. Two garages were found burning, with heavy smoke and flames visible. The fire was declared under control at 2:27 a.m. According to the city’s media release, no one was hurt, and damage estimates are not yet available. However, at the scene on Sunday morning, CTV News found multiple vehicles were destroyed. CTV News was able to speak with one of the owners of the destroyed vehicles and was told a car with nitro fuel “exploded and spread to the garage.” The owner did not want to be identified. Garry Street fire The third fire occurred at 7:36 a.m. Sunday in a commercial building in the 200 block of Garry Street. Firefighters used a drone to assess the scene and had the fire under control by 9:28 a.m. No injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says all three fires are being investigated.
