Manitoba’s police watchdog investigating police pursuit before multi-vehicle crash

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating a three-vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle that took place Wednesday and hospitalized three people.

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating serious injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash following the police pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is now investigating after an adult male allegedly stole a company tractor truck from the 900 block of Main Street.

Winnipeg police found the truck near Salter Street and Jefferson Avenue at 9:26 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Officers briefly pursued the stolen vehicle, but the pursuit was terminated at approximately 9:29 a.m. at the direction of the duty officer,” the IIU wrote in a Thursday release.

After police stopped pursing the vehicle, a crash with two civilian vehicles took place at the intersection of Inkster Boulevard and Arlington Street. The IIU said one of the three people injured sustained a “serious” injury.

The driver of the stolen truck was arrested by police and is being held in custody, the IIU said. There is no word yet if any charges have been laid.

Due to the crash involving serious injuries, the IIU is investigating.
