Snow expected in southern Manitoba this weekend

While the sun is shining on southern Manitoba, snow is falling in some northern regions on Friday.

Just like the last three days, daytime highs in the south will reach the upper minus teens, which is a few degrees below normal for late January.

For perspective, the normal high for Winnipeg is currently -11 C. Temperatures will only be around -18 C on Friday.

A low pressure system will bring snow to the southwest on Saturday morning. Freezing rain is also possible, but it likely won’t last long, if it even shows up.

Snow will spread to Winnipeg and the southeast by Saturday afternoon and continue into the night as it spreads into northwestern Ontario.

Strong south winds associated with the low will usher in mild temperatures in the minus single digits on Saturday.

By Sunday, some sunshine will return to most of the south, with above-normal temperatures continuing.

Meanwhile, snow is falling in the most northern regions of the province on Friday afternoon, while areas further south are seeing sunnier skies.

Daytime highs are milder in the north than in the south on Friday, with temperatures in the mid-minus teens or warmer.

Snow will also spread across the north on Saturday, along with mild temperatures well above normal for the end of January.
