RCMP responded to a fatal small plane crash Saturday morning in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, just south of Oakbank. In a media release, police said officers were called to the scene at around 11 a.m. Emergency crews, including the local fire department and paramedics, found the wreckage of a privately owned, single-engine, two-seater aircraft on the north side of Highway 15, west of Highway 206. The body of an adult male was recovered at the scene. No other occupants were on board. “The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified and is investigating. Oakbank RCMP continues to investigate,” the release said. In an email correspondence, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) confirmed their investigators were deployed. “The TSB deployed a team of two investigators to the site of an ultra-light aircraft accident which collided with terrain in a field near the town of Dugald, Man. at approximately 10:50 local time. “The pilot was the sole occupant on board. We are currently gathering information and assessing the occurrence,” the email read.
