Seasonal bike route speed limits coming into effect

Speed limit changes will take effect this week for the City of Winnipeg’s yearly seasonal bike routes.

Starting Friday, four routes will see their speeds reduced for motorists until mid-October, according to a city news release.

Three of the routes will see the speed limit reduced to 30 km/h: Lyndale Drive from Cromwell to Gauvin streets; Wellington Crescent from Academy Road to Guelph Street; and Churchill Drive between Hay Street and Jubilee Avenue.

The route spanning Kilkenny Drive between Burgess Avenue and Kings Drive, along with Kings Drive between Kilkenny Drive and Patricia Avenue, will go down to 40 km/h.

The speed reduction will be in place 24/7 for the season.

The city will also add turn requirements at select intersections through each route following spring clean-up operations. They will be in place on weekends in May, June, September, and October, and 24/7 through July and August.
