Manitoba school division cancels buses in multiple regions due to weather

A school division has cancelled bus services in several regions due to what it’s calling a fluid weather system that’s making road conditions increasingly difficult to predict.

In a notice sent to families, Prairie School Division says bus service has been cancelled in Carman, Miami, Roland, Elm Creek, St. Paul’s, St. François Xavier, and St. Eustache.

Parents and guardians in these areas are asked to pick up their children directly from school and must sign them out at the office to ensure accurate attendance tracking during the weather event.

“Please proceed to pick up your child(ren) after school or when safe to do so,” the notice stated.

In St. Laurent, buses are continuing to operate. Students may either take their assigned bus home—provided drivers determine routes are safe—or be picked up by a parent or guardian, the notice reads.

As in other regions, families opting for pickup must sign students out at the school office.

Prairie Rose School Division is responsible for operating over a dozen schools west of Winnipeg.

“We understand that the unpredictability of this situation may cause inconvenience,” the school division said.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding.”
