RCMP arrest alleged impaired driver sleeping in parked car on Manitoba highway

A 42-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after she was allegedly found sleeping in a parked car on a Manitoba highway Monday night.

According to RCMP, officers with the Niverville detachment were called to Provincial Road 200 in the RM of Ritchot, north of the intersection of Provincial Road 305.

The caller said a vehicle was stopped in the middle of the northbound lane, and two people inside were sleeping.

When officers arrived, they said the vehicle was parked in the dark with no lights on.

The driver was awakened, and Mounties said she showed signs of impairment and was arrested. She was taken to an RCMP detachment, and a breath sample found her intoxication level was more than twice the legal limit.

The woman, who is from Emerson, is facing a charge of impaired driving. She had her licence suspended and her vehicle was impounded. She is scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg on May 15.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
