QuickCare Clinic set to open its doors in St. Boniface

The province said the QuickCare St. Mary's Road clinic will be staffed by registered nurses and nurse practitioners who can diagnose and treat non-urgent care needs

Manitobans will soon have access to health-care services at a new clinic in Winnipeg.

The St. Boniface QuickCare clinic at 17 St. Mary’s Road will begin seeing patients on Nov. 26.

"QuickCare Clinics, staffed with nurse practitioners and nurses, offer families a convenient alternative for common health concerns, and it's an alternative that's also more cost effective than visiting an ER or walk-in clinic," said Theresa Oswald, Manitoba’s health minister.

The province said staff at the QuickCare clinic can diagnose and treat non-urgent care needs, including:

"Nurse practitioners have an extended scope of practice that allows them to work autonomously, diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests and perform certain procedures," said Dr. Brock Wright, WRHA senior vice-president and chief medical officer.

The clinic on St. Mary’s Road will initially see patients from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Health officials said it will eventually expand hours to include weekends, holidays and evenings.

The city’s first QuickCare clinic on McGregor Avenue, which opened in January, has seen more than 7,500 patients.
