Police respond to ‘serious incident’ at Winnipeg Walmart

The Winnipeg Police Service was on scene of a “serious incident” at the Empress Street Walmart on Wednesday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) said it responded to a “serious incident” Wednesday evening at the Walmart on Empress Street.

Officers made the announcement on social media just after 7 p.m., adding several minutes later that the scene has been secured and that there is no immediate safety threat.

A notice on the store’s door indicates it is closed for the remainder of the evening “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

The store will open again for regular hours tomorrow, the notice reads.

A WPS spokesperson told CTV News Wednesday evening no further details are available but anticipates more information will be released on Thursday.

The investigation remains ongoing.
