On her way to the shower one night, Opie Kreft was unaware a camera was peering into her bedroom window, catching her in a compromising position. “This is a nude picture of me,” said Kreft in an interview with CTV News on Wednesday. “Who knew my butt would create such havoc?” On Aug. 19 an email was sent to the board at Kreft’s condo building in Winnipeg Beach. All five members of the board received the email, which included a picture of Kreft’s bedroom window. In the left-hand corner you can see her nude rear end. Upon opening the email, condo board president Murray McKellar says he was furious. “I was speechless at first, then I got angry,” said McKellar. McKellar said the safety of the residents is paramount so he alerted Kreft right away. “In the privacy of your own home that way, that is not right.” Kreft said when she saw the photo, she was traumatized. “I felt incredibly violated,” said Kreft. In the email with the now infamous picture, the sender said they were intending to show how bright the condo building lights were and asked if the person who lives in the unit could shut their curtains. “If this unit can close curtains while changing, that would be appreciated. I’m unsure if they are unaware that this occurred. We didn’t intentionally see this but we did see the bright lights in the window when we came home late,” the email read. Kreft said instead of sharing the photo with others, the individual could have spoken to her one-on-one. “This person did not have the moral awareness to recognize that was passing it on to not only one individual but multiple individuals,” said Kreft. She believes a drone may have been used. She contacted RCMP over concerns that her privacy was violated. In a statement, RCMP say no arrests were made. “The purpose of the photo was determined to not meet the grounds of laying a charge of voyeurism,” said RCMP. Kreft said Mounties told her they spoke with the emailer and cautioned them, letting them know the severity of the situation. “For me, the fact that my rear end was in there would have been solid enough but I kept getting the communication, it needed to be more than one picture,” said Kreft. CTV News reached out to the person who sent the email for comment and we have not yet heard back.
