NDP nominate Ray Berthelette for Spruce Woods by-election

Ray Berthelette will represent the NDP in a by-election in the Spruce Woods constituency later this year.

The Manitoba NDP has nominated Ray Berthelette as their candidate for the Spruce Woods by-election.

A resident of Brandon’s North Hill, Berthelette has previously served as a correctional officer, a real estate agent and an executive assistant to Brandon East MLA Glen Simard.

The Spruce Woods constituency, a longtime PC stronghold in southwest Manitoba, was vacated in March after Grant Jackson successfully ran federally for the Conservative Party.

In the 2023 general election, the PC Party captured over 60 per cent of the vote in the constituency.

The PC Party has chosen Colleen Robbins, a long-time party volunteer, while the Liberal Party has selected teacher Stephen Reid to run in Spruce Woods.

No date for the provincial by-election has been set, but it must be held by Sept. 16, 2025.
