Manitoba weather forecast: Rain possible in the south

There will be no need for an umbrella or raincoat on Wednesday, but you should get them ready in the south.

Weather conditions are quiet across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario today ahead of an approaching low pressure system.

Temperatures are warmer than yesterday, too. Most southern regions will see highs in the low double digits, under a mix of sun and cloud, teetering toward cloudier skies at times.

Northern Manitoba will enjoy sunshine with daytime highs in the upper single digits.

Winds are light in all areas, except for west winds in the northeast around Churchill and Gillam. That said, those winds aren’t strong either.

Ahead tonight, rain and showers heading north from the US could reach areas closer to the border overnight into Thursday. Overnight thunderstorms can’t be ruled out there either.

Rain and showers will spread across much of the south on Thursday, including Winnipeg.

Areas closer to the international border are forecast to receive the most precipitation Thursday. Southeast communities, including Morden, Winkler, Steinbach and Sprague could see as much as 5-10 mm. A steadier rainfall is expected in the southwest corner, including Melita and Killarney.

As the precipitation persists into Friday, total amounts closer to 10-20 mm are possible in the south.

Bomber fans heading to the matchup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Princess Auto Stadium Friday should be prepared for a soggy evening, with rain likely to continue.

Sunshine will return on the weekend.
