A Manitoba teacher has been stripped of his certificates after admitting to giving a student cannabis last year.

A Manitoba teacher has lost his certificates after he admitted to giving a student cannabis last year.

David Duke, a teacher with the Frontier School Division, had his certificates suspended in Manitoba, according to a resolution agreement published on the province’s teaching registry on March 24.

The report said Duke messaged an underage high school student on social media and met with the student on Sept. 27, 2025, providing them with cannabis, alcohol and a cannabis vape pen.

The division made a complaint to the province’s commissioner of teacher professional conduct in December.

The report stated that Duke admitted to the incident and agreed it constituted professional misconduct. It said that Duke’s conduct, “failed to model appropriate behaviour expected from a teacher” and “violated professional boundaries expected between a teacher and a student.”

“David Duke’s conduct was of a nature that undermines the public’s confidence in the profession and the education system,” the report said.

Duke had been teaching in Manitoba since 1995 and was on a leave of absence from the division at the time of the incident, according to the report.

In addition to having his certificates suspended, Duke has agreed to not make any written or oral statements disputing the decision.
