Thousands of runners will take over Winnipeg streets this weekend as the Manitoba Marathon gets underway, prompting a series of road closures across the city. Closures begin Saturday morning and continue through Sunday afternoon, with the City of Winnipeg advising drivers to expect delays and plan alternate routes. Chancellor Matheson Road, between Research Way and University Crescent, is set to close at 8 a.m. Saturday and will remain shut until 3 p.m. Sunday. On Sunday, the city said single lanes will be affected on numerous roads from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. Major impacts include a full closure of University Crescent between Chancellor Matheson Road and Pembina Highway, and no access to eastbound Jubilee Avenue from Pembina Highway. Drivers should also expect numerous partial closures on Wellington Crescent, as this year’s marathon route shifts from Portage Avenue to Wellington Crescent. Transit service will be rerouted during the closures, the city adds. The city is also directing residents to its interactive lane closures map for ongoing updates on road restrictions.
