There is just over a week to go before the Quebec provincial election, and the leaders are hitting the ground running in this final stretch. Voters head to the polls on Oct. 5. Key details: Follow along for the latest updates: CAQ, PQ billboard war An online billboard war is brewing between the CAQ and the PQ. Thursday afternoon, the PQ shared a picture of a billboard, saying, “On Oct. 5 [election day], drive smart.” The image shows two arrows, one going straight with “12 years of the CAQ” next to it, and the other diverging to the right with the text, “a new beginning.” Later that same day, the CAQ retorted with its own billboard image. Sharing the picture on social media, the party wrote, “On Oct. 5, choose the path of stability.” The image portrays a similar billboard to the PQ, with one arrow pointing straight with “stability and economic growth” next to it, while the lane branching off shows a cul-de-sac warning and the words “a referendum.” The Liberals, Québec solidaire and the Conservatives have yet to take part in or comment on the billboard battle. - Rachel Lau, CTV News digital reporter. Fréchette to crack down on Quebecers using Ontario licence plates CAQ Leader Christine Fréchette says she wants to stop Quebec residents from misusing Ontario license plates, particularly in the Outaouais region. READ MORE: “When someone deliberately seeks to evade their tax obligations, we must ensure that they are identified and that appropriate measures are taken,” she said in a press release. - Rachel Lau, CTV News digital journalist. Québec solidaire wants public intercity bus network Québec solidaire says it is committed to establishing a public intercity bus network if it comes to power on Oct. 5. The party says it wants to significantly increase the number of routes and service frequencies to all regions of Quebec. Québec solidaire Spokesperson Ruba Ghazal says the current model, which relies on private companies, no longer works. - The Canadian Press. Duhaime pushes ‘deal’ between PQ, FTQ Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime says he does not believe the Parti Québécois’s promise to downsize the government, following a meeting between PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and Fédération des travailleurs du Québec (FTQ) President Magali Picard. Thursday, Picard denied having a “deal” with the PQ, as former Premier François Legault had previously claimed. Nevertheless, Duhaime argued that the close relationship would prevent the party from fulfilling its commitments. - The Canadian Press. Registry of public administrators unfit to manage public funds: PCQ The Quebec Conservative Party (PCQ) says it wants to create a registry of public administrators and elected officials deemed unfit to manage taxpayer money, called the Registry of Administrators Deemed Unfit to Manage Public Resources (RADIER), managed by the Public Procurement Authority (AMP). Individuals working in the public sector, including elected officials, civil servants and ministers or deputy ministers “who are deemed unfit to manage public funds” would face penalties. The Conservatives say they modelled the initiative after the Registre des entreprises non admissibles aux contrats publics (RENA), which lists companies that have violated the Act respecting Contracts of Public Bodies. - The Canadian Press.
