Man dies after boat found capsized on Lake Winnipeg

A 77-year-old man has died after a capsized boat was found on Lake Winnipeg Wednesday afternoon.

According to RCMP, officers received a report of a capsized boat in Lake Winnipeg, roughly two kilometres northwest of Balsam Harbour Marina. The operator of the boat was not found.

A search of the water was started, with the East Beaches Fire Department, Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP Marine Services and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team being called in to help.

RCMP said at 5:45 p.m., the body of the boat operator, a man from Winnipeg, was found a short distance from the boat.

RCMP said he was wearing a life jacket.

The investigation continues.
