‘This stuff is really dangerous’: Winnipeg police seize candy-molded fentanyl

Winnipeg police have issued a warning after finding more than 170 grams of fentanyl, much of it pressed into candy-like shapes.

Winnipeg police are warning the public to be on the look-out after a drug bust uncovered fentanyl molded to look like candy.

Const. Pat Saydak said the WPS drug enforcement unit was investigating drug trafficking in the West Broadway neighbourhood. That investigation led police to arrest a 39-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. They also seized 38 grams of fentanyl.

A further search warrant led police to seize 134 grams of fentanyl. Saydak said this is the largest seizure of fentanyl for this unit so far.

Saydak said some of the fentanyl seized was molded into different shapes like dinosaurs, stars and butterflies. He warned this could be enticing to children who might believe it is candy.

“This stuff is really dangerous,” he said.

The two individuals are now facing multiple trafficking and weapons charges. They have been released on an undertaking. The charges against them have not been proven in court.
