Large rock, beer bottle thrown at Manitoba RCMP detachment

Mounties say a large rock was thrown through the window of a Manitoba detachment, only to have a beer bottle thrown at the same detachment less than 48 hours later.

Dauphin RCMP have arrested two people following the two separate instances, the first of which happened Friday at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Mounties say a large rock was thrown through a window at the detachment, narrowly missing employees and visitors. The suspect ran from the scene.

RCMP alleged when officers caught up with the man on 1st Avenue Northeast, he pulled out a collapsible baton. An officer tried using their Taser on the man, but RCMP said it was “ineffective.”

The man took off again but officers found him on 4th Avenue Southeast. RCMP allege the man hit one of the officers with the baton and had a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.

The officer was not injured.

A 39-year-old from Dauphin has been charged with multiple offences including mischief over $5,000, two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was detained in custody and the charges have not been proven in court.

The second incident took place Sunday at 2:45 a.m. following a 911 hang-up call. RCMP said a man called back through 911 and said he was coming to the detachment to talk about an unrelated matter.

Shortly after, RCMP said officers saw a minivan drive into the parking lot of the detachment and up onto the curb at the front doors.

Mounties allege a man got out of the vehicle and threw a glass beer bottle at the building. He was arrested without further incident shortly after.

A 21-year-old man from Dauphin is facing a pair of impaired driving charges. He was released and will appear in court at a later date.
