Manitoba weather forecast: A rainy, cool Tuesday ahead

Those in southern Manitoba should keep their umbrellas handy on this Tuesday.

A trough hovering over the western prairies brings rainfall to much of the south through the afternoon.

The southwest is expected to bear the brunt of this system. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) predicts five to 10 mm of rain could fall Tuesday and overnight in areas like Brandon, Neepawa and Dauphin.

Most other southerly areas also have a chance of rainfall through Tuesday afternoon, though precipitation there is likely to be scattered and won’t amount to substantial accumulations.

Temperatures in these regions will be cooler and below seasonal. Winnipeg has a predicted high of 15 C, while many communities in western Manitoba have forecast highs in the mid-single digits.

It’s a totally different story in northern Manitoba.

Most regions can look forward to plenty of sunshine, with a bit more cloud coverage expected in northwesterly areas.

Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper teens with decently strong southeasterly winds.

Rain could continue overnight in the southwest, while the rest of southern Manitoba will deal with cloudy skies and lows in the mid-single digits.

Temperatures dip in these regions in the mid to upper-single digits.

Similar overnight lows are expected in the north with heavier clouds.

Wednesday brings a return to sunshine for much of the province.

Winnipeg and surrounding regions can expect a mix of sun and cloud and temperatures inching closer to seasonal values in the upper teens.

Sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud are on tap through much of the north as well, with temperatures rising to highs in the mid-teens.

The caveat to this forecast is southwestern Manitoba, which is likely to stay under some pretty dense clouds on Wednesday with sluggish highs in the low teens.
