The founder of a Manitoba hotel chain was recognized with an honorary street renaming on Thursday. Jefferson Avenue between McPhillips Street and Watson Street has been given the honorary name of Leo Ledohowski Way, honouring the founder of the Canad Inns hotel chain. “Over the span of his career, Leo earned the reputation as a well-respected business executive, philanthropist, and community leader,” said Coun. Janice Lukes during a Thursday ceremony. “Leo demonstrated excellence and achievement throughout his life and has left a significant mark on our city and province.” Canad Inns was established 50 years ago and currently operates 10 hotels in Manitoba, one in North Dakota and owns several other businesses, including Tavern United, Aaltos and the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre. Leo, who died in 2025, held leadership roles in several Manitoba organizations, including Destination Winnipeg and the Business Council of Canada. He was appointed to the Order of Manitoba in 2022. His daughter Lea, who currently serves as the president of Canad Inns, called the renaming a significant honour for her father. “I can’t think of a more fitting acknowledgement for a man who genuinely devoted his life to this province, to this city, of course, to the company and to the people who are with us today,” she said.
