Several youths were ticketed on Aug. 21 while RCMP officers were conducting a targeted traffic operation near Villeneuve Road and St. Albert Trail. The traffic operation was intended to address community concerns about traffic, bylaw and e-scooter violations. Mounties took a primarily education-focused approach, but ended up issuing several tickets. RCMP say a group of youths fled from police on e-bikes. They were promptly located and issued a $243 ticket for flight from a peace officer. Another youth was issued a $100 fine for riding an e-scooter without a helmet. Officers said they spoke with about 20 other youths on helmet safety and allowed them to call their parents to bring them proper headgear. Police are reminding people that private e-scooters and motorized dirt bikes are illegal within St. Albert city limits. Those riding rented e-scooters must be at least 16 years old and are required to wear a helmet.
